The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device

Exactly 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

In the teaser shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a brand new toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.
